“Does my bum look big in this?" We’ve all heard people say it, but there are plenty of other problems with the appearance of their bottom that people are less willing to talk about.
If you’ve lost a lot of weight recently, then your bottom – and the area around it – may well be starting to sag. And sadly for all of us, increasing years will mean that our muscles are no longer as firm and taut as they once were.
Then there are people who are simply unhappy with the fact that their bum is flat or shapeless – who look longingly at the ‘Rear of the Year’ finalists and know that they’re never going to be a contender.
So it’s not surprising that buttock augmentation is an increasingly popular cosmetic surgery procedure. A combination of techniques can be used to improve the appearance of the bottom – for example, liposuction can be used to remove excess fat – but more and more patients are now opting for buttock implants. These are shaped silicon implants, inserted into a pocket made by your surgeon, that can really help to give you a fuller, firmer bottom, giving you back the shape the years have taken away, or that nature didn’t give you in the first place.
As you’d expect, the operation is carried out by an experienced and qualified surgeon, and will normally take from 2-3 hours. It’s performed under a general anaesthetic, so you’ll need to spend the night in hospital, and you should probably arrange to take a couple of weeks off work. Full recovery will take up to six weeks, and you should avoid strenuous exercise during this time, but swelling and discomfort will go within a few days, and after a week you’ll be able to walk around normally, and sit down comfortably.
